Thames Valley District School Board Focuses on Student Supports and Financial Recovery in 2025-2026 Budget

The Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) is taking proactive and strategic steps to navigate the financial challenges outlined in the preliminary 2025-2026 budget, while ensuring that student achievement and well-being remain top priorities.

The 2024-2025 school year is projected to end with a deficit of $32 million, driven largely by increased costs related to absences in addition to other staffing pressures. The 2025-2026 budget incorporates significant measures to address the current year’s projected deficit. As part of its recovery plan, the board has implemented strategic staffing reductions and reviewed operational expenses to align with long-term sustainability, reducing the projected deficit to approximately $10.6 million. Despite these necessary adjustments, TVDSB is committed to maintaining vital student services, including literacy and numeracy programs, mental health and safe schools supports.

“The Thames Valley District School Board remains committed to addressing financial challenges while making sure that our students continue to have access to the support and services they need,” said Bill Tucker, Director of Education. “Our focus is on making thoughtful adjustments that will help us maintain the high standards of education our community expects, while working toward long-term financial stability.”

TVDSB’s financial recovery plan is focused on restoring stability, and minimizing the impact on the learning environment and the critical support services students rely on. In working with the Ministry appointed Supervisor, the board will continue to carefully evaluate and implement measures that work toward a balanced budget while strengthening the educational experience for all students.
